William Morris Remixed

I've been having a bit of fun with some floral motifs originally drawn by William Morris. I came upon a book of his tapestry, carpets and other textile designs in the local library and it has been a gem to me. I simply cannot get over the depth of tone, richness of colour, whimsical movement and balance that I find in Morris' designs; not to forget his use of plain flora and fauna treated with such honour.

In my art lately I've been playing with acrylic washes and pen & ink (for I really love to draw) and now I have really come to enjoy the texture and line that emerge from this combination. The layers evoke such emotion. The colours play with and against one another.

...it all captures my imagination.

Not sure where this will take me but I'm happy to have been inspired by Morris and to have given it a try!
